Keyword Optimization

SEO Part 2 Invisible Meta Data
SEO Part 3 – The Importance of Keyword Optimization
To use keyword optimization for your site to rank well in the search engines and draw in visitors, traffic, and potential clients you have to understand what keywords are and how to optimize them.
When you practice keyword optimization, it means that you’ve done your research to discover which keywords or keyword phrases are designed specifically to draw an audience in from the search engine words the person uses to find an answer to their search.
When keyword optimization is done methodically and correctly, it will boost traffic and help translate into sales as well. Keywords then act as the bridges that get the search engine to the right material on your website.
What is a keyword?
A keyword is a word or phrase that’s associated with the information that a search engine processes for people. It must be significant and relevant to the content being published in order to matter. It acts as a guide.
For example, if you type in a very broad word such as the word “job”, you’ll get thousands of responses across a number of search engine results pages. These results will be for a variety of jobs – most of them not even related among the results.
However, if you type in “engineering jobs,” then you’ll get results that are for engineers or related – rather than something like “swimming instructor.”
The more specific you can get with the terms and the phrases you use, the more success your content will have in becoming visible.

Different types of keywords
A broad keyword gives broad results just the way it sounds. You could search for “cats” and get several breeds, information about cat care, adoptions, and anything vaguely cat-related.
When you search broad terms you end up getting a large range of information that may or may not be what you’re looking for. It actually can be a waste of time.
Lesson – Stay away from broad keywords
It is better to use long-tail keywords or keyword phrases when you’re looking for specific search results.
Examples of a long-tail keyword would be “hairless cat for sale.” Or, “women’s red tennis shoes.”
Long-tail keywords usually result in better success in locating specific answers and even sales because the person searching is seeking that product or information. It is easier to be the first site on page one if your keyword phrase is just what they are searching for.
Using specific keyword phrases for your niche can help you tap into a specific audience.
Because the competition is so high in many niches, it is my recommendation that you use a tool to assist you in finding keywords – a keyword search tool. There are free ones online which can be a good start and also paid ones.
Keyword Search Tools
A keyword search tool assists you to find the specific search terms most likely to get you the search engine results you are hoping for.
The search tool typically will tell you the number of searches every month – how many people are looking for that information.
It will also tell you the competition, how many others are ranking for that keyword. Competition translates into how hard it may be to rank near the top with that term.
Depending on the tool you will also get other relevant information.
These are the tools I use and recommend:
- Chrome Extension – Keywords Everywhere – Keyword Tool
Easily found by doing a search for the Chrome extension
There is also a paid version for Chrome - Keyword Atlas Available this weekend for special one time offer.

Keyword Tips for increasing visibility:
- Install a recommended WordPress plugin such as All in One SEO or Yoast SEO.
- Add Your Target Keyword or Phrase Early On in Your Post, preferably early in the first sentence. The things you begin talking about early on in your content give search engines a quick idea about what your content is covering.
- Make sure your header tags include the keyword you are trying to rank for.
- Search engines like to see words and phrases related to your target keyword.
If you are targeting “paleo diet recipes”, include phrases like “weight loss recipes,” “low-carb diets,” and other related phrases. - Your title tag should begin with the keyword that your web page is focusing on.
If you are trying to rank for the keyword phrase “blood type diet”, your title tag would be “Blood Type Diet Recipes” as opposed to “Delicious Recipes for the Blood Type Diet”.
These 5 tips are just the tip of the iceberg as the saying goes. yet they give you an important jump start.
