Part 5 – Is your Website Mobile-Friendly?

A Mobile-Friendly website is a key to your online success. This is not new information. Data from 2020 showed 60% of searches taking place on a mobile device.

Google recently made “Mobile” a key part of their updated core algorithm. They even went so far as to say your theme can have a direct effect on your SEO.

The point is to remember, the number of consumers using their cell phones just like they would a laptop and most frequently when seeking local services continues to increase.

Making sure your site displays well on a mobile device can be a game-changer for your business.

I’m sure the reasoning behind adding a website’s mobile responsiveness as a key factor to the ranking list was because when mobile users encounter sites that won’t load on their device or phone or they get weird graphics displays, or the load speed is super slow, they will move on to another site, and you can lose out on a visit or a sale. That’s why you need to be sure you have a responsive version of your website that allows these consumers to be able to see your site correctly and quickly.

Your Theme can directly affect your SEO.

Start by making sure your design works with mobile devices on all browsers, or at least the main ones (Google, Bing, Edge). If you need to update your theme to a newer one, do it!

Chose a WordPress theme that is recommended for its mobile friendly style. For example, when your website is built on WordPress, you’ll want to optimize the site for mobile users by installing the core updates for the theme that allows for a great mobile presentation.

You also want to make sure that you have a responsive menu for mobile – It is easy to do with a current theme.  On a mobile device, it often looks like a stack or “hamburger” that when clicked, expands to show the pages. This needs to be large enough to be visible and clickable for visitors.

Some businesses now offer a mobile app for their businesses in addition to their website. These apps are created specifically for use on mobile devices and streamline the site visit or shopping experience for the consumer.

Mobile Friendly

If you’re in the planning stages for a website, be sure to choose a theme that says it’s mobile-friendly or responsive. A good designer will point this out for you. If you are doing it yourself, explore premium theme builders such as Elementor or Divi. They are designed to take care of mobile friendly details for you with amazing customizations.

Make sure the content load is “light” for your mobile users. That means make sure the content and images you include are scaled down for mobile users. With a responsive theme, you or your designer can “hide” sections or images that will slow down the site as it loads differentiating those that appear on a mobile device from those a desktop. Load speed is an important part of the SEO algorithm and key to how your site will rank among the competition.

When you take care of how your site presents on mobile devices, you provide a positive experience for potential customers and make the search engines happy.
